Sister Water Project of the Sisters of St. Francis from Dubuque

We, as parish and school, were able, by our work, focus, and dedication to justice, to raise enough money during Social Justice week in January to provide clean water to one entire village of approximately 2000 people in the village of Kitungua, Tanzania, in Africa!!  This also means that water-born disease will be nearly eliminated in 60-90 days

Following is correspondence wtih the Sisters regarding Saint Theresa's donation:

MARCH 26, 2009

Dear Sisters,

Greetings in the Lord.

First, we acknowledge the receipt of the money sent
through the Salvatorians for the construction of a new ring well in a rural community here.

We greatly appreciate your unalloyed commitment to ensure that the rural poor access that basic necessity for existence -- water. The contributions by the teachers are very commendable, historic, in fact. Their dedication and commitment have no boundary. We pray that God may continue to reward and bless them in their goodwill.

Things are being put in place for the construction of the ring well. The beneficiary village is Kitungua in Kilgowira area. A brief description of the place is attached, and also the picture of their traditional well (you will have the visual of the water as the poor people drink it, with the risks the well poses to people, especially children being drowned). All these will soon change as we construct the well and install a hand pump for them. At this stage, we have ordered the necessary materials and manufacturing of concrete rings is ongoing. We hope that by next week ending the rings must have been properly cured and we get on with the work at the site. The people are so happy, appreciating for your magnanimity. We shall keep you informed on the progress of the work.

Thanks again. Henry

Dear Sisters and Cindy,

Thanks for your mail.

We got the money for the second well, and already materials for the work have been ordered. I will mail you soon to send you the description of the place. Yes, we shall continue to ensure that all those concerned are informed.

On Kitungua village, digging commenced few days ago, and is progressive. Thanks to God. Attached are the pictures of the works. They project the stage of the work as at yesterday. We hope to complete the digging early next week, and then start with the second project.

Thanks, and we continue to ask for your prayers.
Henry

APRIL 3, 2009

The work at Kitungua village has been a success. Slab construction is done (see picture), currently curing. On Sunday we shall be there for pump installation.

We were fortunate to have the company of Fr. Tom SDS, and John and Linda Dimmock SDS, who sacrificed their time and resources to witness some of the works we do/did. Today they left Tanzania, and we are praying that God may lead them safely back to the States.

After pump installation at Kitungua next tomorrow, on Monday we shall be starting the second project in one of the remote villages here. Soon I will send you the description of the place and the pictures of their traditional well.

Thanking you all again for the great part you play.
Henry

APRIL 7, 2009

Dear Friends,

I mail to inform you of the completion of the work at Kitungua village (Kingolwira), marked by pump installation.

Due to heavy rains we have been unable to transfer our heavy materials to the next site. The place is in the interior and the road is quite bad. Today it appears that the weather will remain clement and if the current sunshine endures then there may be no reason why we cannot tranfers materials tommorow, unless it rains tomorrow morning. We shall keep you all informed.

Thanks to you Cindy, and Sisters and Fathers for your generosity to the poor. The people are immensely edified, and are very grateful to you.

Thanks, Henry
