This, rather, is the fasting I wish: Releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own.  Isaiah 58:6-7

St. Theresa Social Concerns Mission Statement:

To facilitate the commitment of financial, human and spiritual resources of St. Theresa Church of the Child Jesus to convey Christ’s justice and love to the suffering members of His Body.

St. Theresa Social Concerns History

In 1990, a group of 6 parishioners began what is now known as St. Theresa Social Concerns.  The vision of these founders was based on the major themes of Catholic Social Justice teaching:  Human dignity, Community and the Common Good, Rights and Responsibilities, Preferential Option for the Poor, Participation, Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers, Stewardship of Creation, Solidarity, Role of Government, Promotion of Peace.  Click here to see a summary on Catholic Social Teaching

This small group started the Share program at St. Theresa and began serving at the Churches United Shelter.  From these beginnings, St. Theresa Social Concerns has grown to over 30 members and is involved in a broad-range of charity and justice issues.

“The central message is simple: our faith is profoundly social.

We cannot be called truly ‘Catholic’ unless we hear and heed

the Church's call to serve those in need and work for justice and peace.”
