Committee Reports

      Standing Committees

v     Personal Care/Food Pantry - School kids made valentine hearts listing food items for parishioners to bring back to Church for the Feb collection.  

 

v     Coffee Project – Coffee sales will be the 24th/25th of Feb and March.

A parishioner is designing a stand for a self serve coffee stand for the purpose of purchasing coffee.

 

v     Homeless Meals -  No Report

v     St Theresa House – The last meeting with the Krah family went well.  They would really like to look for homes with in their current school boundaries (Callanan) and Nora’s work place (Scottish Rite).  Keep them in your prayers and keep eyes and ears open for suitable home for them.

v     DMASAC News – No Report

v     Catholic Charities – No Report

v     Angel Tree – Barb wanted us to know that she appreciated all the support for the project.  We had many new people involved this year.  92 Angels where taken from the tree before the 11:30 Mass.  Only 1 was not returned but someone quickly bought gifts.  There was some wrong information given to us from Prison Ministry with did cause confusion during the project.

 

v     Work of Human Hands – No Report

 

v     AMOS – At the Jan 22nd meeting the upcoming caucuses & elections were discussed.  AMOS would help people develop a more positive attitude toward the political process and become more involved.

There are 2 “Tom Foolery” fundraisers this month; 1 in Ames & 1 in DM.  John will be attending a workshop on prophetic mission in Omaha on Feb 24th.

 

 

      Other News and Volunteer Opportunities

v     Articles for the bulletin – Amanda would like filler articles for the bulletin. This is a great way to educate and promote SC topics.  Kathy S.  offered to submit an article about the Food Pantry.  Contact Anne for further ideas.

 

v     Time and Talent F/U – Anne was able to contact all but 8 people on the list.  Those interested in becoming part of SC will be added to the email list.

 

v     Political Contacts – Anne would like to develop a listing of legislators and elected city or county officials and make this available to all.  Might we be able to put this on the web page as a link? Tom Chapman might already have a listing.  Anne will check.  If anyone would like to help with this project or knows of a similar listing please contact Anne.

 

v     St Benedict’s Mission – Please keep Brother Patrick and the Mission in your prayers while he recovers from his injuries.

 

v     Tax services – Barb Dempsey is willing to do free tax prep and e-file.  Please call her at home.

 

v     Faith In Action -  John Gaffney is looking for meal providers for 3/18/07 for this years group of teens who are giving up their spring break to do community service projects in the DM area.

 

v     Just Faith – Please keep Celeste, Cindy and Donna (Sub) in your prayers as they participate in the next Katrina clean up project in New Orleans Feb 22-27th.

 

v     DMARC – The next delegate meeting is at St Johns, Feb 15th.  Rick will be attending.

 

v     Refugee Welcome Center – There will be and open house Feb 15th from 3:30 – 6 PM at this new center.  3200 University Ave.

 

v     20th Anniversary of the Encyclical on Social Concerns – Joe expressed interest in doing a fall project of some sort for youth or all parishioners to educate and create awareness of this encyclical since this is the anniversary year.  We will have more discussion at future meetings.
