annual fall fundraiser

Two Mile Walk
The St. Theresa Stampede is the annual fall fundraiser to be held Sunday, October 7. Money raised is used for items not included in the school's operating budget. A two-mile health walk will begin and end at Colby Park in Windsor Heights.

When the BIG and SMALL Kids Get Loud
Beginning its 22nd Anniversary, the St. Theresa Stampede has generated over $340,000 in funding for non-budgeted items for the children attending the Westside Catholic elementary school that serves families from nine communities (Des Moines, Windsor Heights, Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Grimes, Polk City and Ankeny). Fall 2007 enrollment is 335 students, with children coming from more than 220 families.

St. Theresa School is accredited by the Iowa Department of Education and has its own 501c3 foundation, the St. Theresa School Foundation. Gifts to the school or to its foundation are tax-deductible within limits established by the Internal Revenue Service.

Stampeding to Reduce the Racket in the Community Center!
The 2007 Stampede goal is $31,000 to fund a renovation project to improve the sound quality in the school community center/gymnasium, because when 335 kids get together for a school assembly or physical education class – they can sound like a barn full of animals! Additionally, funds will be used to support a number of existing parent-sponsored projects at the school including the classroom-based Talking Canvas arts education initiative.

New Textbook Series Extras
For only the second time in the 22 year history of the St. Theresa Stampede, the event will include a fund raising appeal to support the children attending Wednesday Evening Faith Formation classes at St. Theresa Parish. Fall 2007 enrollment in the Wednesday evening program includes 122 students, with children coming from more than 75 families. The Catholic parish has more than 1,200 registered parishioners, or nearly 3,000 individual members.

Gifts to this fund raising project are tax-deductible within limits established by the Internal Revenue Service. The funds raised for this portion of the project will be earmarked for use in purchasing supplemental materials to support the religious education series purchased this fall with a goal of also purchasing a laptop computer for classroom catechist/teacher usage*.

The 2007 Stampede goal for this portion of the Stampede is $2,500 to fund numerous classroom extras available from the publisher of the religious textbook publisher that are not included with the basic textbook series.

Business Support Needed
Businesses BIG and SMALL that support elementary education and faith formation of elementary school-aged children are encouraged to join the herd and help reduce the noise level and improve the educational environment during physical education classes and other all-school events. And to help as we raise money to expand the educational resources classroom catechists/teachers use to bring the Catholic faith alive for young people.

2006 Stampede A Success
Together with the help of school families and faith formation families, we achieved some impressive numbers last year! Over three hundred people participated in the Stampede walk held on October 8. The pancake breakfast held in the Parish Hall satisfied more than 950 hungry participants. A total of $32,000 was raised for literacy resource materials & visual arts guest artist appearances. $2,500 was raised for the Generations of Faith Festivals.

* For advertisers concerned about the use of charitable donations: Funds raised by the students in the school will be restricted to installing sound absorbing materials in the community center/gymnasium and other parent-sponsored projects for school students. Funds will remain separate throughout the campaign to ensure donor intent is honored.
